The section of I-70 through Glenwood Canyon was one of the last pieces of the interstate highway system completed. Coming in at 40 times the average cost per mile of the interstate system, this project tried to juggle transportation, safety, recreational and environmental impact. mcdewey

This is a view of the Skokomish River from the High Steel Bridge. The Skokomish river floods frequently leading to the question: “Why did the salmon cross the road?” Here is a good reason why these pictures aren’t closer to the river. mcdewey

High Steel Bridge

This is the view over the north edge of the High Steel Bridge. This bridge is 420 feet above the Skokomish River. This little cataract flows into the Skokomish. When taking pictures over these kinds of edges, I like to brace my knee against something solid before looking through, or at the camera.
